Today’s advent treat is a special one – we’re revealing the new covers for the three classic Robert A. Heinlein novels that Hodder publishes! So without any futher ado:
The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, Starship Troopers and Stranger in a Strange Land are, of course, not just classic Heinlein but classic science fiction, full-stop: they’re must-own staples of every SF library.
We’re incredibly proud of these new covers; they were designed in-house by our colleague Cherie Chapman and she did the lettering entirely by hand (with an Exacto knife). They take their inspiration from the unmistakable design sensibilities of Saul Bass, whose art and opening credit sequences for movies like Vertigo and North by Northwest are absolute marvels of mid-century design. The background images are meant to suggest thematic elements from each novel: The Moon is a Harsh Mistress boasts a starry night sky, Starship Troopers a blood-red background (which is a colour-boosted image of the surface of Mars), and, of course, Stranger in a Strange Land is meant to evoke the glass of water that Valentine Michael Smith shares with Jill Boardman.
The new covers are already available on our ebook editions and will be available as barnd-new physical editions in 2015 – so keep your eyes peeled!
